Haskell R. Matheny, ASID, CAPS, LEED Green Associate, owner and principal designer of Haskell Interiors, has successfully completed the education, training and exam necessary to receive the designation of LEED Green Associate as issued by the Green Building Certification Institute in Washington, DC.   Mr. Matheny is one of few Chattanooga area ASID interior designers to successfully complete the LEED Green Associate training program.

LEED professionals are a driving force behind the green building movement.  By becoming a LEED Green Associate, Mr. Matheny has distinguished himself as a leader and a resource for others seeking to achieve their sustainability goals.  Mr. Matheny now joins a global community of LEED professionals who are working to realize the vision of green buildings for all within a generation.

Haskell Interiors was recently awarded Best of Show and Exhibitors Choice during the 45th Annual Tri-State Home Show in Chattanooga, TN.  The Best of Show award, is given for best booth presentation, and presented by the Home Builders Association of Southern Tennessee.  This is the second consecutive year Haskell Interiors has been awarded Best of Show.   The Exhibitors Choice award is selected by all the exhibitors participating in the show.  The show included booths representing over 250 vendors of the building and remodeling industry.

This year’s booth, entitled “Retro Metro” blended modern styling trends with a Historic Art Deco flavor.  Haskell Matheny, ASID, CAPS, LEED Green Associate designed the space to show his philosophy of combining classic details in a modern, clean up-to-date setting.  The space, fashioned after a New York apartment, interprets modern city life with modern glass, chrome and neutral colors, mixed with the classic elegance of warm woods, luxurious silks and velvet fabrics and strong architectural lines.

Haskell Matheny, ASID, IIDA, CAPS , owner and principal designer of Haskell Interiors, has recently completed the training necessary to receive the designation of Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS).   Mr. Matheny is the only Chattanooga area ASID designer to successfully complete the CAPS training program.

The CAPS program was developed by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Remodelers Council, in collaboration with the AARP, NAHB Research Center and NAHB Senior Housing Council.  As a CAPS certified professional Mr. Matheny has been trained on the unique needs of seniors and is prepared to anticipate and accommodate the needs of people over the age of 50, helping clients to be able to “age in place”, or live there longer, in their existing home by modifying the home and addressing the most common barriers in the home.

Through the use of universal design principles, Mr. Matheny works with clients to create safe, comfortable and more independent living  aspects of  their home; both for the present and the future.  As a CAPS professional, Mr. Matheny is trained in common remodeling projects and costs, accessibility issues, product recommendations, codes and standards, and the process and resources needed to provide a complete aging in place solution.
